True bespoke starts with a blank sheet of paper. Your pattern is drawn entirely by hand, from your own measurements and posture alone, then cut and hand-sewn by our atelier in Naples.
The process takes about three months and includes four to five fittings — because a garment built this way isn’t rushed.
You should be the best dressed in any room — and feel completely at ease while doing it.
Max Schmidt has spent over a decade designing custom garments for thousands of clients. What started as a passion for clothing and craftsmanship became a conviction: that every man deserves clothes that actually fit, made from materials worth keeping.
1701 Bespoke is the result. A studio in Detroit that treats every commission as a collaboration — between the client's vision, the tailor's expertise, and the centuries-long tradition of Neapolitan craft.
Our suits are made near Rome and Naples by craftspeople who have spent their careers mastering this work. Our fabrics come from the finest mills in England and Italy — Loro Piana, Zegna, Dormeuil, Ariston — the same houses that supply the world's great tailors.
Approximately 3 months. The hand construction process — pattern drafting, cutting, padding, and multiple fittings — cannot be rushed without compromising quality.
Bespoke starts from a blank sheet of paper with a fully hand-cut pattern, while made-to-measure adjusts an existing block pattern to your measurements. Both include multiple fittings and the same fabric access, but bespoke is entirely custom from the first cut.
Our bespoke work is done in a Neapolitan atelier.
